Iowa cancer research presentation, 6:30 p.m. Scott Community College Urban Campus community room, 101 West 3rd St., Davenport. Dr. Mary Charlton, professor of epidemiology at the University of Iowa School of Public Health, will speak on the school’s latest findings.

Down by the Riverside Chat, bi-weekly community meet-up, 5:30-7 p.m., picnic shelter at LeClaire Park, Davenport (weather permitting). Share ideas, art, music, writing and poetry, discuss current events, politics, history and “things you don't learn in school,” organizing, volunteer opportunities, and have fun! CIPCO public meeting, noon- 2 p.m., Rhythm City Casino. 7077 Elmore Ave., Davenport. The Scott County Board of Supervisors rejected a proposal to change zoning and allow for a “special use” to include thermal energy on farmland. Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) has filed with the Iowa Utilities Commission to build a natural gas power plant east of Maysville.

Scott County Legislative Forum, 10 a.m.-noon, Welcome Center, Scott County Community College, 500  Belmont Road, Bettendorf. Sponsored by the American Association of University Women and Eastern Iowa Community College. Engage with local leaders, voice your concerns, and learn about the issues that matter most to our community.

 

The Librarians, award-winning documentary, 2 and 4 p.m., Putnam Museum and Science Center, 1717 West 12th St., Davenport. The film focuses on the librarians defending First Amendment protections. The 4 p.m. screening will be followed by a panel discussion including representatives from the ACLU, Iowa Library Association and local librarians.

Resistance Rally and Gathering, 1:30 p.m., Singing Bird Nature Center, 4429 15th St, Rock Island. Nefesh invites organizations to join for a day of connection, solidarity, and shared purpose. Groups may set up tables, share food, exchange experiences, and introduce people to their goals. Attendees are asked to bring donations for The Third Place clothing, hygiene items, food, and other essentials as well as toys for children.

Discussion of water, health care and education in Iowa and audience Q&A. RSVP requested.

Workers Memorial Day Service, noon, USW Local 105 Union Hall, 880 Devils Glen Road, Bettendorf. This is a national observance to remember workers who have been injured or died on the job. IBEW 1375 and Davenport Arconic Leadership Team are also sponsored. Lunch will be served after the service.
